TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Nomura Asset Management (野村投信) launched Taiwan's first dual-listed cross-border ETF Thursday (Sept. 18) on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE, 證交所). TWSE Chairman Lin Hsiu-ming (林修銘) and Tokyo Stock Exchange President Iwanaga Moriyuki (岩永守幸) attended the debut of the Nomura Japan TOPIX ETF (009812), marking a milestone in Taiwan-Japan financial cooperation.
The 009812 ETF tracks 1306 Tokyo Stock Exchange-listed companies across food, clothing, housing, transportation, education, entertainment, and AI technology sectors. Priced at NT$10 (around US$0.33), it targets small investors. Nomura simultaneously listed the 00935 Nomura Taiwan Innovation Technology 50 ETF on Tokyo's exchange with Japanese code 412A.
Speaking at a press event, Iwanaga Moriyuki noted Taiwan has issued 14 Japanese ETFs over the past decade. He stated the mutual listings on the 10th anniversary symbolize deep cooperation between both countries' capital markets. Lin Hsiu-ming reported Taiwan's ETF market expanded 30-fold since 2003 to exceed NT$6.5 trillion (around US$216 billion) by August, surpassing global growth rates.
Nomura Asset Management stated the cross-border ETF listing mechanism will accelerate Taiwan's capital market internationalization and deepen Taiwan-Japan exchanges.
