TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA, 外交部) strongly condemned China's aggressive diplomatic behavior Tuesday (Sept. 16), after Danish media Berlingske reported Chinese Ambassador to Denmark Wang Xue-feng (王雪峰) demanded the expulsion of Taiwanese Representative Robin Cheng (鄭榮俊) from Japanese Emperor Naruhito's (德仁天皇) 65th birthday celebration February 26. MOFA spokesperson Hsiao Kuang-wei (蕭光偉) characterized the incident as a clear example of China's confrontational wolf warrior diplomacy tactics. The diplomatic confrontation occurred at the Japanese Embassy in Denmark, highlighting escalating tensions in international diplomatic circles.
Hsiao expressed the Ministry's deep regret over the incident, emphasizing that such inappropriate behavior was witnessed by diplomats from multiple nations and violated fundamental international diplomatic etiquette. The spokesperson noted that news of China's conduct has circulated extensively within local diplomatic circles, damaging Beijing's international reputation. Hsiao called upon the international community to jointly resist and strongly condemn China's bullying rhetoric and malicious diplomatic behavior, while reiterating the critical importance of respecting host nations and adhering to basic international event protocols.
Berlingske reported that Wang Xue-feng delivered his demand in an extremely disrespectful manner, threatening to lodge formal protests if his request for Cheng's removal was not immediately accommodated at the Japanese Embassy in Denmark. Both Japanese and Danish officials firmly rejected the Chinese ambassador's inappropriate demand, maintaining diplomatic protocol and respect for invited guests. Wang subsequently departed the celebration in visible anger, reportedly expressing his dissatisfaction by pointing directly at Taiwanese Representative Robin Cheng before leaving the diplomatic gathering. ◼
