TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's most influential business lobby delivered a sweeping call for government intervention Tuesday (Sept. 2), demanding state-led investment and infrastructure spending to shore up the island's economy. The Chinese National Federation of Industries (CNFI, 工總) released a comprehensive white paper outlining seven key recommendations that would fundamentally reshape Taiwan's economic approach. The federation's strategy emphasizes positioning Taiwan as a global economic hub through enhanced government support and strategic public investment initiatives.

CNFI Chairman Pan Chun-jung (潘俊榮) pressed for aggressive government intervention during Sunday's (Sept. 1) welcoming event for newly appointed Minister of Economic Affairs Kung Ming-hsin (龔明鑫). Pan advocated launching state-owned enterprise projects, freezing electricity prices, and boosting labor subsidies to support struggling workers. The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA, 經濟部) will convene a critical committee this September to review electricity tariffs, prompting Pan's urgent calls for government subsidies to Taiwan Power Company (TPC, 台電) and exploration of multi-functional energy development strategies.

Chen Ching-tsai (陳進財), chairman of WIN Semiconductors Corp. (穩懋), endorsed wage increases while cautioning against overlooking external economic pressures. Chen highlighted Taiwan's 20%+N tariffs' devastating dual impact on small and medium enterprises, demanding immediate government attention and targeted assistance for affected businesses. Pan reinforced his calls for government-led investment and state-owned enterprise budget activation to combat mounting economic challenges amid unprecedented global instability, with upcoming electricity tariff and minimum wage discussions serving as crucial tests of official responsiveness. ◼
