TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The 2025 ESG Summit opened Tuesday (Aug. 26) at Taipei's Nangang Exhibition Center (南港展覽館) Hall 2. The event brings together sustainability experts and industry leaders from across the region. Yi-Hsin Wang (王怡心), chairperson of the Accounting Research and Development Foundation (會計研究發展基金會), Taiwan's leading accounting standards organization, announced the 3-day summit would feature 42 professional conferences addressing critical environmental, social, and governance challenges.
The Accounting Research and Development Foundation organized the summit, which runs from Tuesday (Aug. 26) to Thursday (Aug. 28), to explore core sustainability challenges. Topics span the 2050 net-zero carbon goals, sustainable development policies, international sustainability standards, and circular economy principles. Additional sessions will cover green finance and investment, carbon management, digital transformation, and carbon reduction technology innovations.
Several prominent figures attended the opening ceremony, including Chen Yen-liang (陳彥良), vice chairman of the Financial Supervisory Commission (金管會), Taiwan's financial regulator, and Sherman Lin (林修銘), chairman of the Taiwan Stock Exchange (台灣證交所). Wang delivered a creative video address during the opening, expressing gratitude to government agencies and welcoming representatives from international organizations. These included the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), XBRL, International Valuation Standards Council (IVSC), and European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG).
The summit will offer events across two exhibition halls, focusing on circular economy themes and technological innovation. The event introduces a sustainable accounting hackathon for the first time, allowing participating teams to propose innovative solutions for sustainability and local revitalization. Organizers will announce winners during the closing ceremony Thursday (Aug. 28), while Wang invited the public to attend a sustainable fashion show Wednesday (Aug. 27) at 7 p.m. featuring items made from coffee yarn textiles and recycled materials. ◼
