TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's table tennis star Lin Yun-ju (林昀儒) secured his advancement to the round of 32 at the WTT Europe Smash tournament in Sweden Monday (Aug. 18). The recently turned 24-year-old athlete, currently ranked 11th in World Table Tennis men's singles standings, defeated his 22nd-ranked opponent Lee in straight sets with commanding scores of 16-14, 11-7, and 11-8.
Lin dominated early in the opening game with a 9-6 advantage before Lee mounted a fierce comeback, scoring four consecutive points to level the match. The Taiwanese player demonstrated exceptional offensive prowess through five dramatic ties before ultimately securing the first set. Lin's trademark backhand flicks proved decisive in the second game, breaking a 4-4 deadlock to claim an 11-7 victory.
Lin preserved his narrow advantage in the decisive third game despite momentarily falling behind 5-6, then sealed his victory with four straight points. The Taiwanese champion will next face Japan's Shunsuke Togami (戶上隼輔) in the upcoming round. Fellow Taiwan competitor Feng Yi-Hsin (馮翊新) battled through injury but fell to Slovenia's Darko Jorgic in a hard-fought first-round match, losing 11-9, 9-11, 6-11, 13-15. ◼
