TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A devastating traffic collision disrupted the morning commute Wednesday (July 23) in Wanli District (萬里區), New Taipei City (新北市), when a gravel truck skidded across lanes and struck a Kuo-Kuang Motor Transport (國光客運) bus. The 7:50 a.m. accident left more than a dozen people injured, with one passenger suffering out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Emergency responders rushed to the scene as the crash blocked traffic in both directions.
Firefighters discovered a 30-year-old Kuo-Kuang passenger in critical condition with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest upon arrival. The 67-year-old bus driver sustained severe injuries but remained conscious throughout the ordeal. Emergency medical teams transported the driver and two other seriously injured passengers to Keelung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (基隆長庚醫院) for immediate treatment.
The gravel truck driver remained conscious but trapped inside his vehicle near the Jingmei Road (景美路) brick factory bus stop. The truck had been traveling from Keelung (基隆) toward Jinshan (金山) when it reportedly skidded across the roadway into oncoming traffic. Rescue crews worked to extract the driver from the heavily damaged vehicle while securing the accident scene.
Preliminary reports indicate 13 people sustained injuries in the collision, with the cardiac arrest victim suffering the most severe trauma due to proximity to the driver's area. The crash severely disrupted traffic flow in both directions along the busy corridor. Police temporarily closed affected lanes and redirected Keelung-bound vehicles to an alternative route on Highway 2 to manage the congestion.
