TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Executive Yuan (行政院) reported on the aftermath of Typhoon Danas during a council meeting held on Thursday (July 10). The storm inflicted over NT$1.59 billion in damages to agriculture, forestry, fishery, and livestock, with Chiayi County, Tainan City, Yunlin County, and Pingtung County suffering the most severe losses.
The Office of Disaster Management (行政院災害防救辦公室) confirmed that Typhoon Danas resulted in two deaths and 708 injuries as of noon on July 9. Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, and Taichung City experienced 210 flooding incidents, all of which have since receded. Water supply and electricity have been restored to most affected households, with a 90% power restoration rate achieved.
The office also mentioned that telecommunications faced challenges, with 12,258 landline disruptions and 1,360 damaged base stations. Repair efforts continue, focusing on the remaining 994 landlines and 373 base stations to swiftly restore normalcy. The Executive Yuan (行政院) agencies have outlined 12 key assistance measures, including condolence payments, flood aid, and support for agriculture and fisheries. The Ministry of Agriculture (MOA, 農業部) has designated several areas, including Nantou County and Chiayi City, for cash aid and low-interest loans.
