TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) prioritized disaster relief and public duties after Typhoon Danas prompted the cancellation of his scheduled speech in Kaohsiung. Karen Kuo (郭雅慧), a spokesperson for the Presidential Office (總統府), announced this focus on Monday (July 7), noting that the rescheduling of the speech will be announced at an appropriate time.
The Presidential Office canceled the fifth lecture of the "Ten Lectures on National Unity" (團結國家十講) series due to the typhoon. Kuo explained that the event, set for the weekend, was called off following a Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) alert, emphasizing that public safety and typhoon preparedness remain top priorities.
The government has established a Central Disaster Response Center to coordinate efforts. A day earlier, President Lai and Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) inspected disaster prevention and preparedness measures. President Lai highlighted the necessity for collaboration between central and local governments to handle the typhoon prudently. He thanked all personnel involved in disaster prevention and relief efforts for their dedication.
