The collaborative initiative aims to advance sustainable tourism practices while simultaneously enhancing the quality and efficiency of public transit options, ultimately creating more seamless travel experiences for both domestic and international visitors exploring Taiwan's diverse attractions.
The formal signing ceremony brought together IOT Director-General Lin Chi-kuo (林繼國) and Tourism Administration Director-General Chou Yung-hui (周永暉), with Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC, 交通部), Taiwan's cabinet-level agency overseeing all transportation matters, Deputy Minister Chen Yen-po (陳彥伯) presiding as an official witness. During the event, Chou highlighted the ongoing transformation of Taiwan's tourism landscape, noting a significant shift toward more immersive cultural experiences and stronger regional connectivity throughout the island, emphasizing that reliable, efficient transportation networks have become increasingly essential for meeting visitor expectations.
According to official statements from the Tourism Administration, the newly signed agreement establishes a framework for interdepartmental cooperation that will translate the specific requirements of various tourism zones into actionable policy initiatives and implementation strategies. The administration intends to conduct thorough needs assessments and develop integrated transportation and tourism planning systems based on a holistic approach encompassing the complete visitor experience—what officials describe as the "travel, stay, eat, play, and shop" concept—while strategically consolidating regional tourism assets to create more cohesive destination offerings.
Under the agreement, the Institute of Transportation will assume responsibility for coordinating regional transportation centers across Taiwan, offering specialized technical guidance on transit system design and travel service optimization to support environmentally responsible tourism development throughout the island. The institute's expertise will also be leveraged to help the Tourism Administration upgrade existing shuttle networks, with particular emphasis on expanding and improving the "Taiwan Tourist Shuttle Service" (台灣好行), a specialized bus system designed specifically for tourists, to create more intuitive, convenient transfer options and better-connected travel routes between popular destinations. ◼
