TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) on Thursday (May 29) expressed his support for Taichung's recent developments, highlighting the international recognition of Kaohsiung Arena (高雄巨蛋) and Kaohsiung National Stadium (世運主場館). The Taichung City Government announced plans yesterday to construct a multifunctional venue with a capacity of over 30,000 at Shuinan Trade and Economic Park (水湳經貿園區).
Mayor Chen noted Taichung residents' longstanding anticipation of a large-scale sports and cultural performance venue, which will offer more options for the community. When asked about Kaohsiung's plans for a similar large venue, Chen emphasized that Kaohsiung Arena meets international event standards and can accommodate a variety of cultural performances.
Kaohsiung's National Stadium boasts an annual solar power capacity of 1 million watts, earning praise from international concert promoters. Chen added that international stars consider multiple factors when arranging concerts, and Kaohsiung's stadium meets their requirements.
With these developments, Kaohsiung and Taichung are poised to enhance their cultural and entertainment offerings, potentially attracting more international events and visitors. As the cities invest in infrastructure, the region's cultural landscape may grow significantly in the coming years.
