TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council (MAC, 陸委會), the government agency overseeing relations with China, firmly rejected a widely circulated video on Wednesday (May 28) that falsely claimed entertainer Huang An (黃安) had been stripped of his Taiwanese citizenship for promoting forceful unification with China. Officials denounced the video as deliberately manipulated content created by those seeking to spread misinformation.
In an official statement, the MAC categorically dismissed claims that Huang An had lost his citizenship rights and faced a permanent entry ban to Taiwan. Government representatives stressed that no such punitive measures had been enacted against the controversial entertainer, emphasizing that all citizenship matters follow established legal frameworks. The council cautioned that the fabricated video appeared designed to erode public confidence in governmental institutions and create societal divisions, imploring Taiwanese citizens to avoid spreading the deceptive content.
The controversy emerges against a backdrop of ongoing investigations initiated earlier this year, when government officials received citizen reports suggesting Huang An had registered residency in China. While this separate matter remains under official review, the MAC used the opportunity to highlight broader concerns about digital misinformation. Officials warned about the growing sophistication of manipulated videos circulating online, urging citizens to remain alert to what they described as elements of cognitive warfare targeting Taiwan's social fabric. ◼
