Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕) revealed on Wednesday (May 28) that the long-anticipated Taichung Dome will rise within the Shuinan Economic and Trade Park (水湳經貿園區), a premier development zone in the city. The Chinese Taipei Baseball Association (CTBA, 中華棒協) — Taiwan's governing body for baseball — promptly endorsed the announcement.
City officials described the planned facility as a versatile entertainment and sports complex designed to accommodate more than 30,000 spectators. The multipurpose venue will serve as home to premier baseball competitions while also functioning as a world-class concert arena for international performing artists. Mayor Lu projected a four-year timeline for the dome's construction, positioning the facility to open its doors to the public by 2029.
Baseball officials highlighted Taichung's established credentials as an international baseball destination, pointing to the city's successful hosting of elite tournaments including the Intercontinental Cup and Baseball World Cup at its existing Intercontinental Baseball Stadium. The CTBA expressed confidence that the enclosed dome would elevate Taichung's global standing as the self-proclaimed "World Baseball Capital" while enhancing Taiwan's ability to secure prestigious international baseball competitions and other sporting events.
The baseball governing body pledged comprehensive technical support throughout the development process, underscoring its intention to partner closely with municipal authorities.
