TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A massive landslide brought traffic to a standstill Monday (May 12) on a rural mountain road in Miaoli County, as torrential rains triggered a cascade of mud and boulders onto Miao 62 Line in Dahu Township (大湖鄉). Heavy machinery has been deployed to clear the debris at the 2.3-kilometer mark, validating safety warnings issued earlier by county officials for the treacherous Tai 62 Line during the ongoing downpour.

During the cascade of debris, a boulder struck a passing vehicle, resulting in minor injuries to one passenger. Emergency responders from the Miaoli County Fire Department swiftly extracted the victim, who complained of chest pain and sustained bruising under the right armpit. The injured person was transported to a local hospital for treatment, with authorities confirming the injuries are not life-threatening.

Officials from Miaoli County's Department of Transportation and Public Works (交通工務處) face a significant challenge: a car-sized boulder blocking the roadway must be demolished before traffic can resume. Engineers estimate road-clearing operations will continue for at least six hours. Meanwhile, authorities have issued advisories urging motorists to seek alternative routes and exercise heightened vigilance on all mountain roads throughout the region as relentless rainfall continues. ★
