TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Pingtung County, a southern agricultural region in Taiwan, has unveiled a vibrant floral lifestyle aesthetics exhibition showcasing locally grown blooms while offering residents rare access to fresh bouquets at direct-from-farm prices. Running through May 18, the exhibition highlights the county's diverse horticultural heritage and features interactive DIY flower arrangement activities for visitors of all ages.
Yang I-ping (楊怡萍), secretary-general of the Taiwan Orchid Breeders Association (台灣蘭花育種者協會), a national organization representing orchid cultivators, emphasized the significance of presenting locally grown flowers as Mother's Day gifts. According to Yang, the exhibition features more than 40 flower varieties priced affordably between NT$5 and NT$25 (US$0.17 to US$0.83) per stem. Pingtung's Department of Agriculture (農業處) identified the county as a major national supplier of flowers and decorative foliage, cultivating approximately 314 hectares of floral crops.
The Department of Agriculture further detailed that the exhibition highlights Pingtung's premium floral varieties through partnerships with the Kaohsiung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station (高雄農業改良場), a regional agricultural development center, and the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (國立屏東科技大學). Visitors attending on May 10 and 11 can explore a special farmers' market and participate in various hands-on activities, including the popular "Mother's Day-themed bouquet making" workshop.
As the exhibition progresses through mid-May, both local residents and tourists have the opportunity to immerse themselves in Pingtung's diverse floral culture while engaging in educational activities that showcase the region's agricultural expertise. The event represents part of ongoing efforts to promote Taiwan's domestic flower industry and connect consumers directly with local producers in this agriculturally significant southern county. ★
