TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Zeiss Taiwan General Manager Cheong Peng-tat (章平達) announced on Tuesday (April 29) that Carl Zeiss (蔡司) plans to invest NT$10 billion in Taiwan over the next decade. The company will expand its workforce by 50 employees in 2025, aiming to reinforce its presence in Taiwan.
Cheong also revealed that Zeiss will announce new AI-related investments in May, positioning Taiwan as a hub for new product introductions. He highlighted the company's growth trajectory, noting that in 2018, Zeiss had only 30 to 40 employees in Taiwan. By 2024, the workforce had grown to about 400, with plans to increase to 450 this year.
Zeiss Taiwan Microscopy Solutions Director Henry Cai (蔡慧) emphasized the impact of the ZEISS Hsinchu Innovation Center, which has enhanced customer failure analysis services and collaborated with the German headquarters on customized solutions. Cai also noted the establishment of a logistics center in Taoyuan, enabling four-hour delivery of parts to customers and driving double-digit growth over the past three years.
Zeiss Taiwan Industrial Metrology Solutions Operations Director Clive Yen (嚴子登) mentioned plans to expand AI-related investments, enhancing Taiwan's process validation and quality control for new product development. Cheong further acknowledged the impact of U.S. tariff measures on international businesses like Zeiss but expressed confidence in the company's global production strategy to mitigate challenges.
Zeiss operates five major business units in Taiwan, including eyewear, medical, microscopy, industrial metrology, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment, employing around 400 people.
