TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Meta announced on Thursday (April 24) the gradual introduction of advertisements on its popular social platform, Threads, in Taiwan and globally. Previously regarded as an "ad-free haven" with over 320 million monthly active users, Threads has captured the attention of young users. This move marks a significant shift in the platform's strategy.
Meta's press release explained that advertisers in Taiwan can now extend their existing Meta marketing campaigns to Threads by simply selecting an option in the Meta Ads Manager. This integration requires no additional resources or customized ad materials. The company aims to maintain a balanced user experience by focusing ads on areas where users spend more time and engage with content.
To ensure relevance, Meta has conducted small-scale tests and expanded the advertising rollout based on these evaluations. The company employs surveys to understand user preferences and deliver more resonant content. Users can control their ad experience by skipping or hiding unwanted ads and reporting suspicious ones.
Meta continues to refine its ad display position filtering tool, already available on Facebook and Instagram feeds and Reels. This tool, leveraging artificial intelligence, allows advertisers to choose the sensitivity level of content next to which their ads appear, supporting over 30 languages. Users and advertisers alike will likely see further developments as Meta fine-tunes its advertising strategies on Threads.
