TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan-based High Tech Computer Corporation (HTC, 宏達國際電子) unveiled an ambitious initiative Thursday (April 24) to revolutionize eldercare in America through virtual reality technology. The program, developed in partnership with AT&T, Mynd Immersive, and Select Rehabilitation, will serve 45,000 seniors across 150 care facilities, establishing itself as the largest XR therapy rollout in U.S. eldercare history.
The collaboration, which gained significant momentum during the first quarter of 2025, represents a major advancement in digital healthcare integration nationwide. Elderly residents will soon experience therapeutic sessions using HTC's VIVE XR Elite headsets running MyndXR's specialized platform. "The demographic shift toward an aging population presents one of our generation's greatest challenges," said Cher Wang (王雪紅), HTC's founder and chairwoman, noting projections that individuals over 65 will surpass 1.6 billion globally by 2050.
Implementation is proceeding rapidly, with Mynd's team onboarding and training staff at 25 facilities each week, creating what industry observers describe as a paradigm shift in evidence-based senior care. The therapeutic system pairs HTC's lightweight VIVE XR Elite headsets with specialized software delivering augmented, mixed, and virtual reality experiences specifically designed for rehabilitation purposes. Select Rehabilitation, America's largest contract therapy provider with a workforce exceeding 20,000 specialists, reports significant improvements in physical, occupational, and speech therapy outcomes at locations already utilizing the technology. ★
