TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's government is preparing to unveil a substantial economic stimulus package aimed at bolstering the island's export sector amid global trade uncertainties. The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA, 經濟部) will present an NT$88 billion (US$2.7 billion) initiative to strengthen export-oriented supply chains during a high-profile meeting at the Executive Yuan (行政院), Taiwan's cabinet, on Thursday, with mayors from five major municipalities expected to attend.

According to cabinet projections, the Ministry of Finance (MOF, 財政部) will contribute NT$14 billion (US$427 million) toward reducing trade financing costs and providing export insurance discounts for businesses. The economic affairs ministry will deploy the largest portion of the package — NT$41 billion (US$1.25 billion) — to strengthen export loan guarantees, expand credit access for small and medium enterprises, and fund initiatives to transform research into marketable products while helping companies secure international orders.

The comprehensive package includes NT$15 billion (US$457 million) from the Ministry of Labor (MOL, 勞動部) targeted at job creation initiatives, while the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA, 農業部) will dedicate NT$18 billion (US$549 million) to agricultural financing and improving export cold chain infrastructure. Cabinet officials stressed that authorities would vigilantly track developments in U.S. trade policy. The government also plans to tackle non-tariff trade barriers while implementing safeguards to protect public health standards and maintain food security.

The high-level economic strategy session will bring together leaders from Taiwan's largest urban centers, underscoring the national significance of the export initiative. Confirmed attendees include the mayors of five major cities: Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) of Taipei, Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) of New Taipei, Chang San-cheng (張善政) of Taoyuan, Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) of Tainan, and Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) of Kaohsiung. Taichung, Taiwan's second-largest city, will be represented by Vice Mayor Cheng Chao-hsin (鄭照新) in place of Mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕).
