TAITUNG (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Air Force resumed flights for the Brave Eagle (勇鷹) advanced jet trainers at Taitung's Chihhang Air Base (志航基地) on Wednesday (March 5). This decision follows a two-week intensive operation by the Air Force Flight Training Command (空軍飛訓部) and Aerospace Industrial Development Corp. (AIDC, 漢翔公司) to restore training after a recent crash.
On Feb. 15, a Brave Eagle jet lost power and crashed into the sea near Taitung's Doulan Coast (都蘭). The pilot, Lin Wei (林瑋), successfully ejected and was rescued. In response, the Air Force grounded all Brave Eagle jets and enhanced academic and simulator training for air and ground personnel.
The Air Force Command Headquarters (空軍司令部) stated that they are continuing salvage operations for the crashed aircraft. Officials aim to recover flight recorders to determine the cause of the incident. On Wednesday, more than 10 Brave Eagle jets and two F-16 fighters took off and landed at Chihhang Air Base.
The resumption of flights marks a critical step in ensuring the operational readiness of Taiwan's Air Force. As the investigation into the crash continues, authorities remain committed to enhancing safety protocols and training measures.
