TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Peggy Chen (陳佩琪), wife of Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) former chairman Ko Wen-je (柯文哲), visited him at the Taipei Detention Center on Monday (March 3) to deliver some items.
She brought two bags of food and a box of pain relief patches for Ko, who recently suffered a back strain. However, detention center regulations prevented her from delivering the patches, as they are considered medical supplies. The detention center assured that if an inmate feels unwell, they will arrange for an internal medical consultation.
Chen appeared tired during her visit, sitting with her eyes closed as she waited for the staff to process her paperwork. Though she nodded in response to questions, she did not make any comments to the press. Regulations limit each visit to a maximum of 30 minutes, but in practice, meetings typically last about 15 minutes.
Ko's father, Ko Cheng-fa (柯承發), passed away on Feb. 17 at the National Taiwan University Hospital in Hsinchu at the age of 94. The family has scheduled the funeral for March 10.
Ko, currently detained, requested through his lawyer to lift restrictions on visits and communication to discuss funeral arrangements with his family. The Taipei District Court ruled on Feb. 27 to lift visitation restrictions for Ko's mother, wife, brother, and sister until March 10.
