TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei's Department of Social Welfare (台北市社會局) announced on Wednesday (Feb. 26) an extension and increase in early intervention subsidies to support families with developmentally delayed children. The department will extend the subsidy age range to 6-18 years and raise the monthly amount to NT$6,000 for low-income and NT$4,000 for lower-middle-income households.

Commissioner Yao Shu-wen (姚淑文) emphasized the program's significance, noting that Taipei offers the most comprehensive age coverage and the highest subsidies for low-income households nationwide. The department highlighted the growing trend of dual-income families and the financial burden they face when caring for developmentally delayed members, prompting the enhancement of these subsidies.

Eligible children aged 0-6 and not yet in school who have a developmental delay or hospital disability certification can apply for subsidies for medical or training expenses. Since October 2022, Taipei has included subsidies for therapy and training expenses for children aged 6-18, aiming to assist disadvantaged youth with special needs.

Over the past two years, the subsidies have benefited 230 individuals across 519 instances, meeting the ongoing needs for extended therapy in vulnerable families. Parents can leverage these resources to ensure their children receive the necessary support and care as they transition into new learning stages, facilitating a smoother school life.
