TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Two new Mandarin learning textbooks have been published, integrating Taiwan's cultural and literary elements into language education to offer learners worldwide a fresh perspective, National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU, 台灣師範大學) announced on Friday (Feb. 21). The textbooks are a collaborative effort between the National Museum of Taiwan Literature (台灣文學館) and NTNU's Mandarin Training Center (台灣師範大學國語教學中心).
The university has also declared plans for a Mandarin teaching seminar, inviting academics and educators to engage with the newly developed materials. Y. H. Frank Ying (印永翔), the university's vice president, emphasized that the seminar will focus on these textbooks. He noted the goal is to help global Mandarin learners comprehensively understand Taiwan's literature, culture, and societal context.
Chen Ying-feng (陳瑩芳), director of the National Museum of Taiwan Literature, highlighted the "Taiwan Cultural Textbook" (台灣文化教材), which features Taiwan's maritime culture, geographical characteristics, and culinary traditions. Meanwhile, the "Taiwan Literature Reader" (台灣文學讀本) compiles works from various Taiwanese authors across different eras, covering themes such as Indigenous literature, human rights literature, military dependents' village literature, and women's literature.
Tsai Ya-hsun (蔡雅薰), director of the Mandarin Training Center, believes these textbooks offer rich learning resources for global Mandarin learners, enabling them to understand Taiwan's unique historical and cultural essence deeply.
