TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese table tennis player Chien Tung-chuan (簡彤娟) showcased her skill on Friday (Feb. 21) by defeating India's Sreeja Akula in the ITTF-ATTU Asian Cup group stage, securing her spot in the round of 16. Chien, ranked 47th globally and third among Taiwanese women's singles players, dominated the match with scores of 11-5, 11-6, and 11-7.

Facing Akula, ranked 29th, Chien maintained control throughout the match. The two had previously met twice, each winning once. Chien's recent victory in the 2019 Thailand Open, where she won 3-0, set the stage for her commanding performance today, as she advanced in straight sets.

Meanwhile, Huang Yi-hua (黃怡樺) faced a challenging match against South Korea's Lee Eunhye. After a 39-minute battle, Huang lost with scores of 6-11, 12-10, 11-4, 6-11, and 7-11, missing the chance to progress to the round of 16. In men's singles, Huang Yan-cheng (黃彥誠) was eliminated after losing his final group match against South Korea's Cho Daeseong, scoring 6-11, 9-11, and 11-13. This was his third consecutive loss in the preliminaries.
