TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Centers for Disease Control (CDC, 疾管署) began administering 100,000 government-funded flu vaccines nationwide on Thursday (Feb. 20), attracting significant public interest.
Eager residents formed long queues to receive their shots amid the flu outbreak's peak, aiming to reduce their risk of infection.
Taipei received 11,160 doses and an additional 1,000 adjuvanted vaccines donated by TTY Biopharm Company (台灣東洋藥品公司) for seniors over 65. Taipei City Hospital (北市聯醫) and 12 district clinics provided these vaccines. At the Xinyi Outpatient Clinic (信義門診部), all 100 available slots were filled before 9 a.m., underscoring the high demand.
The CDC completed vaccine allocations across 22 counties, with New Taipei receiving 15,450 doses, Taichung 12,380, Kaohsiung 12,270, Hsinchu City 1,940, Hualien County 1,400, and Kinmen and Lienchiang receiving 240 and 50 doses, respectively. Hualien County Health Bureau (花蓮衛生局) Director-general Chu Chia-hsiang (朱家祥) noted that the 1,400 doses allocated to Hualien are sufficient for the initial phase targeting 11 vulnerable groups.
