KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — Taiwanese baseball team TSG Hawks (台鋼雄鷹) faced off against the South African team in a practice match Tuesday (Feb. 18) as part of their warm-up for the World Baseball Classic (WBC) qualifiers 2025.
Despite being ranked last in the upcoming competition, South Africa showed determination, scoring three runs in the first inning.
Dylan Unsworth, a former pitcher for the Fubon Guardians (富邦悍將), returned to Taiwan with the South African team, which features many young talents.
The South African head coach, Neil Adonis, expressed his anticipation for facing the Taiwan team, which recently won the WBSC Premier12 championship, according to the Liberty Times Net (LTN, 自由時報). He acknowledged Taiwan's strength and home-field advantage, admitting that securing a victory would be a tough challenge.
The World Baseball Classic qualifiers will take place at the Taipei Dome (台北大巨蛋) from Friday to Sunday. Taiwan will face Spain on Friday, South Africa on Saturday, and Nicaragua on Sunday. Taiwanese fans eagerly await these matchups, hoping to see their home team continue its winning streak.
