TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's stock market reached new heights on Wednesday (Feb. 12), with the index peaking at 23,528 points, marking a post-Lunar New Year high. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC, 台積電) led the charge, rising from NT$5 to NT$1,115, while AVerMedia Technologies (圓剛) and AboCom Systems Inc (兆勁) hit their daily limit, capturing market attention.

In the U.S., major indices showed mixed results. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA, 道瓊工業指數) climbed 123.23 points, closing at 44,593 points, and the Standard and Poor's 500 (S&P 500, 標普指數500) rose 2.06 points to 6,068.5 points. However, the Nasdaq Composite (NAS, 那斯達克指數) fell 70.40 points to 19,643.8 points, and the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX, 費城工業半導體指數) dropped 2.69 points to 5,079.97, reflecting market volatility.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance's voiced commitment to manufacturing advanced AI hardware in America likely spurred Intel's (英特爾) stock to surge over 10%. Meanwhile, Federal Reserve System (美國聯邦準備系統) Chair Jerome Powell, speaking at a Senate hearing, reiterated no urgency to adjust interest rates, mentioning tariffs could pressure inflation. Cleveland Federal Reserve Bank President Beth Hammack predicted steady interest rates, boosting U.S. Treasury yields.

In Taiwan, President Capital Management (統一證券投資顧問有限公司) highlighted the significance of U.S. tariff developments and TSMC's upcoming board meeting in the U.S. for investors. In the short term, U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs continue to disrupt Taiwan's stock market, with a strategy suggested for low-end buying and phased investments, focusing on textiles, footwear, and U.S. concept stocks. January's combined revenue for Taiwan's listed companies hit a record NT$3.74 trillion, indicating ongoing growth.
