TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese television host and actress Dee Hsu (小S) announced on Friday (Feb. 7) that her sister, Barbie Hsu (大S), who passed away during the Lunar New Year, expressed her wish for a tree burial, adding that the family is currently applying for this process.
Dee Hsu's manager confirmed that Barbie's ashes will temporarily remain in her luxury home in Taipei's Xinyi District (信義區) until the application is approved.
Neighbors reportedly protested on Threads, calling the decision to keep Barbie's ashes at their home disrespectful to the community's residents, voicing concerns about the temporary placement of it in a residential building. In response, Dee Hsu said she is committed to honoring her sister's wishes for an eco-friendly tree burial.
Taipei City Government offers tree burial plots in Muzha District's (木柵) "Yongai Garden" (詠愛園) and "Luoyu Hill" (落羽之丘), covering about 19,400 square meters. The burial process involves placing ashes in a plot without headstones or names, allowing for a harmonious blend of life and nature. This method respects traditional burial practices while conserving land resources.
