TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Palau and Taiwan marked a significant milestone toward sustainable development on Friday (Feb. 7) by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the color-painted solar panel system technology. The Taiwan Intelligent Zero Carbon Building Alliance (TIZC, 台灣智慧淨零建築產業聯盟) and other key partners also participated in the agreement.
Palau's Minister of State Gustav Aitaro led a high-level delegation to visit the Ministry of the Interior's Architecture and Building, Experiment Center. They signed the MOU under the witness of Deputy Minister of the Interior Tung Chien-hung (董建宏) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA, 外交部) Counselor Chiang Chen-wei (江振瑋). Aitaro emphasized that Palau's tourism-based economy requires technological advancements that do not compromise its natural and traditional landscape. He stated that the color-painted solar panel system technology can seamlessly integrate with natural scenery, promoting renewable energy use while maintaining scenic harmony.」
Tung highlighted Taiwan's innovative green building technology as a perfect solution for Palau, achieving a balance between aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability. The Palau Embassy in Taiwan released a statement detailing the MOU's scope, which includes the application of the colored-painted solar panel system technology in buildings and tourist attractions, the development of carbon emission trading mechanism, and the introduction of green transportation with electric tricycles and smart city technologies.
