TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) issued a Cold Surge Advisory on Friday (Feb. 7), warning of plummeting temperatures across 20 counties and cities, including Taipei. Officials excluded only Pingtung and Penghu from the advisory.
As the evening progresses, temperatures will drop significantly, with northern and central Taiwan and Yilan expected to see lows of 8 to 10 degrees Celsius.
Meteorologists predict the cold wave will continue to grip the region through Monday morning, resulting in freezing weather. The administration highlighted a chance of temperatures hovering around 10°C or dropping below 6°C in areas such as Changhua and northward, as well as Yilan, Hualien, Kinmen, and Lienchiang.
The "Very Cold" warning includes New Taipei City, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, Keelung City, Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu City, Taichung City, Changhua County, Yilan County, Hualien County, Kinmen County, and Lienchiang County.
Areas marked as "Cold" include Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi City, Chiayi County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, and Taitung County.
The administration noted that temperatures will continue to fall as the cold wave moves south. Expect brief showers in northern Taoyuan and eastern regions, while Hsinchu, Miaoli, and mountain areas in the central and southern parts may see scattered showers. Other areas will remain mostly cloudy, with temperatures dropping as the night progresses.
