TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Four major tech companies have announced they will not require employees to work on Saturday (Feb. 8), the official make-up day, allowing them to enjoy the weekend.
Following the end of the nine-day Lunar New Year holiday, employees in Taiwan face a unique situation. They must deal with the pressure of a six-day workweek to make up for a flexible holiday on Jan. 27.
Inventec (英業達), Wistron (緯創), Compal (仁寶), and Kinpo (金寶) have decided not to observe the make-up day, sparking envy across the market.
Inventec emphasized its commitment to employee welfare, stating the decision aligns with its people-oriented corporate culture. Wistron adjusted Jan. 27 as a holiday without requiring a make-up day, while Compal encouraged employees to "enjoy a free weekend" and reminded them to turn off their alarms for a relaxed break.
Kinpo announced the decision on Facebook, highlighting its people-oriented philosophy as well as expressing gratitude for its employees' hard work. Through this gesture, the company aims to foster a better work-life balance. As the first and only make-up day of 2025 approaches, these companies' decisions stand out, prompting discussions on workplace flexibility and employee satisfaction.
