TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) anticipated on Thursday (Feb. 6) that the coldest temperatures will occur early Saturday morning. "Taipei's Disaster Response Office" (台北市災害防救辦公室) also issued a warning about an approaching cold wave, expected to impact the city from Friday through Monday.
Forecasters predict temperatures will plunge to 10 degrees Celsius in urban areas, with some regions possibly dipping below 10°C. Residents should prepare for cold weather, especially near mountainous areas like Wenshan (文山) and Nangang (南港), where temperatures could fall below 8°C.
Officials have outlined seven measures to combat the cold. The city's Department of Health (北市衛生局) will enhance medical response systems, monitor diseases, and educate vulnerable populations. The Taipei City Government Department of Social Welfare (北市社會局) will activate care mechanisms for the elderly and open shelters for the homeless. Meanwhile, the Department of Economic Development (產業局) will focus on preventing cold damage to hillside crops.
The Taipei City Construction Management Office (北市建管處) will promote self-inspections to prevent accidents from falling tiles, a risk highlighted by a recent incident. Icy road conditions in Yangmingshan (陽明山) require caution, and the city's Fire Department (消防局) is urging the safe use of heating appliances following a carbon monoxide poisoning incident in Daan District (大安區) early Thursday.
