TAIPEI (TVBS News)—Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) on Wednesday (Feb. 5) unveiled a NT$300,000 prize for Lin King (金翎), the translator of the award-winning book Taiwan Travelogue (臺灣漫遊錄), at the Taipei International Book Exhibition (TIBE, 台北國際書展).
Chiang emphasized that the award recognizes Lin's indispensable contribution to the work, which won the American National Book Award. He said the prize acknowledges Lin King and all cultural workers for their dedication and hard work.
Chiang, alongside Taipei's Department of Cultural Affairs Commissioner Tsai Shih-Ping (蔡詩萍), curated a list of 20 books spanning international trends, urban governance, and biographies.
Looking ahead, Chiang announced the debut of the "Taipei Writers Award" (台北作家獎) at next year's book exhibition, inspired partly by Louis Cha Leung-yung's (金庸) martial arts novels. Chiang remarked that the city's progress comes from the brilliance of its creators, encouraging more creative energy from Taipei's writers.
