TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The "Taipei's Disaster Response Office" (台北市災害防救辦公室) announced on Sunday (Feb. 2) that temperatures in northern Taiwan could drop to 10 degrees Celsius on Monday due to a strong continental cold air mass. This poses a risk to individuals with cardiovascular diseases and other sensitive groups.
Officials predict temperatures will fall to around 12°C on Monday night, with lows potentially reaching 11°C on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Areas near mountains, such as Wenshan (文山) and Nangang (南港), might experience temperatures below 10°C.
Taipei's government has activated a support mechanism for the elderly and vulnerable populations, opening shelters for people without homes.
Taipei's Department of Health (衛生局) has intensified its medical response system and disease monitoring to educate vulnerable groups and those with chronic illnesses. Meanwhile, the Taipei City Fire Department (消防局) emphasized fire and electrical safety, advising residents to ensure proper ventilation for water heaters to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
