TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC, 陸委會) urged on Thursday (Jan. 23) for pre-announcement communication between the Taiwan Strait Tourism Association (台旅會) and the Association for Tourism Exchange Across the Taiwan Straits (海旅會) regarding cross-strait tourism policies.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China (中國大陸文旅部) disclosed on Jan. 17 that it intends to resume group tours from Fujian and Shanghai to Taiwan. They have expressed a desire for enhanced communication between the tourism sectors of both sides.

After a press briefing on Thursday, MAC Minister Chiu Chui-cheng (邱垂正) elaborated to the Central News Agency (CNA, 中央社) that the Taiwan Strait Tourism Association will propose discussions with the Association for Tourism Exchange Across the Taiwan Straits on mutual concerns before any policy is officially announced.

He emphasized the need for both sides to reestablish communication through these tourism associations, hoping for a swift renewal of dialogue.

Although plans are underway, China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism has yet to officially announce Taiwan as a destination for group tours.
