TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Highway Bureau (公路局) anticipates heavy traffic on the Suhua Highway during the nine-day Lunar New Year holiday, from Jan. 25 to Feb. 2. Officials estimate traffic will peak on Feb. 2 with approximately 22,000 vehicles heading north. The bureau expects the southbound flow will begin on Jan. 25, reaching its highest volume of around 18,000 vehicles on Jan. 29.
Travelers will likely flock to scenic spots between Jan. 30 and Jan. 31, while journeys back to work will dominate Feb. 1 and Feb. 2. The bureau advises motorists to use the Suhua Highway's main route, Provincial Highway 9 (台9線), to save time. To boost public transportation, the bureau has implemented priority measures for buses in Su'ao (蘇澳) and Chongde (崇德) during peak hours.
Officials will allow tourist and highway buses to use the hard shoulder on certain sections of the highway. Traffic control measures will be in place, including restrictions on vehicles over 21 tons. The bureau will manage traffic flow through signal management and increased law enforcement, urging drivers to travel during off-peak hours or use public transportation.
Motorists should perform vehicle safety checks and stay informed of weather and road conditions. The bureau recommends downloading the highway app (幸福公路) for real-time updates and wishes everyone a safe and pleasant holiday journey.
