TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Power Company (Taipower, 台電) reported Wednesday (Jan. 22) that an equipment failure at Matsu Nangan Airport (南竿機場) caused a power outage around 9 p.m., affecting 749 households in Jieshou Village (介壽村) and Meishi Village (梅石村). The company isolated the fault and restored power by 9:55 p.m., assisting the airport with repairs.
According to Taipower, residents in Lienchiang County's (連江縣) Nangan Township, including areas in Jieshou and Qingshui (清水) villages, experienced unexpected power outages starting at 9 p.m. The cause remains under investigation. Multiple residents informed Central News Agency (CNA, 中央社) reporters that the blackout began suddenly around 9 p.m. in Qingshui Village.
Mr. Chang, a resident of Jieshou Village, expressed his frustration to CNA, stating that residents of Nangan Township faced internet disruptions in the morning due to a submarine cable failure, followed by the evening power outage, making it a day full of challenges. The incident highlights the vulnerability of infrastructure in remote regions like Matsu, where residents rely heavily on stable power and internet services.
