TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Labor Minister Hung Sun-han (洪申翰) on Wednesday (Jan. 15) addressed the high turnover rate among labor inspectors, announcing plans to enhance support from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA, 職安署). The minister emphasized the need for resources to help inspectors manage unreasonable pressure from businesses, improve equipment, and provide transportation support.
The Ministry of Labor (勞動部) conducted joint inspections across northern, central, and southern regions to prevent workplace accidents amid the pre-Lunar New Year rush. Minister Hung attended the inspection in the north region, noting the challenging conditions inspectors face, often encountering verbal abuse or threats from employers.
Minister Hung underscored the value of labor inspectors, stating that they are OSHA's valuable assets. He revealed ongoing efforts to develop support strategies to alleviate the undue pressure on inspectors by employing team-based assistance. The northern region inspections revealed 12 violations, which resulted in the suspension of operations at seven sites and fines amounting to NT$550,000.
Minister Hung stressed that inspections are merely a tool to ensure worker safety. He urged employers and employees to prioritize occupational safety to prevent regrettable workplace incidents.
