TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan has made significant strides in promoting its agricultural products abroad. Japan's Ibaraki Prefecture plans to purchase 10,000 Taiwanese mangoes for 20,000 local schoolchildren, the deputy agricultural minister announced on Wednesday (Jan. 15).
The Agriculture and Food Agency (農糧署) hosted an award ceremony in Taipei, recognizing 39 companies for marketing Taiwanese agricultural products. Among the honorees, the Representative Taiwan Office of Kasama City (笠間台灣辦事處) stood out, marking its seventh consecutive acknowledgment.
Deputy Agricultural Minister Hu Jong-i (胡忠一) emphasized the transformation in Taiwan's agricultural production and marketing structures over the past 30 years, focusing on freshness, quality, and advanced technologies like organic production and cold chain logistics. Three international companies, including Domino's, received accolades this year. Domino's uses Taiwan's Golden Diamond Pineapple (Tainung No. 17, 金鑽鳳梨) for its Hawaiian pizzas.
At the same time, the Representative Taiwan Office of Kasama City has facilitated local schools' procurement of Taiwanese fruits. The office also signed a cultural exchange memorandum with the Agriculture and Food Agency to introduce Taiwanese bananas, pineapples, and pomelos to Ibaraki's school lunches and supermarkets.
