KINMEN (TVBS News) — Kinmen County Magistrate Chen Fu-hai (陳福海) announced on Monday (Jan. 13) a NT$2 billion investment in educational projects across the county over the next two years, aiming to enhance community services and childcare facilities. Officials in Kinmen's Kincheng Township (金城鎮) broke ground on the Fong Siang Xinzhuang Multi-Service Center & Child Care Center (鳳翔新莊多元服務館暨托嬰中心) on the same day.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held in the bustling and well-equipped Fong Siang Xinzhuang community (鳳翔新莊社區), drew several dignitaries, including Kincheng Township Mayor Lee Cheng-chih (李誠智) and independent councilor Tung Sen-bao (董森堡). Chen noted the county's collaboration with the community and planning firms over the past two years to ensure the new center meets local needs. He emphasized the importance of considering the center's future active use.
Chen highlighted other development projects in Kincheng Township, such as the reconstruction of Kinmen Kincheng Junior High School's gymnasium and the completion of the Shuitou Commercial Port Tourists Service Center by late this year or early next year. Tung expressed hope that the childcare center model could expand to other communities like Anhe (安和) and Minsheng (民生), providing more venues for residents.
The Department of Social Affairs (社會處) detailed in a press release that the center will feature a multi-service hall on the first floor, offering lectures, health promotion, and lifelong learning spaces. The second floor will house a public-private partnership child care center scheduled for completion in 2026. The department also noted Kinmen's recent efforts to establish childcare resources, including centers in Lieyu (烈嶼) and Jinsha (金沙) Townships last year and plans for additional centers in Jinhu (金湖) and Jinning (金寧) Townships by 2026.
