TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC, 金管會) explained on Monday (Jan. 13) that inviting NVIDIA (輝達) to issue a Taiwan Depositary Receipt (TDR) would require complex negotiations with the U.S. government. Director-General Chang Chen-shan (張振山) acknowledged the challenges but noted that Taiwan's Innovation Board (創新板) could attract more overseas AI supply chain companies to list in Taiwan.
During a visit to the Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation (TWSE, 台灣證券交易所) by the Legislative Yuan's Finance Committee (立法院財政委員會), Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) Legislator Lo Ming-tsai (羅明才) suggested that inviting NVIDIA could help Taiwan's stock index reach 30,000 points. Meanwhile, KMT Legislator Lai Shyh-bao (賴士葆) inquired about the differences between Innovation Board 2.0 and existing listings.
TWSE Chairman Sherman Lin (林修銘) explained that the new board eliminates qualified investor restrictions, requiring only a risk disclosure statement for trading. Preliminary statistics from the TWSE show that since its launch on Jan. 6, Taiwan's Innovation Board 2.0 has seen daily trading volumes rise from 1.5 million-1.6 million shares to 2 million-3 million shares. The board aims to retain Taiwanese startups interested in overseas listings and attract Asian and international startups, positioning Taiwan as a new hub for innovation industries.
General Manager Lee Ai-ling (李愛玲) emphasized the board's focus on innovation, noting that seven experts must review applications, with five approvals required, indicating a rigorous process even surpassing traditional listings. The Taiwan Stock Exchange reported that in 2024, 31 companies applied for IPOs, with six on the Innovation Board. For 2025, they aim for 40 IPO applicants, including 15 on Taiwan's Innovation Board.
