TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Agriculture (MOA, 農業部) announced the discontinuation of its popular NT$60 "Happiness Bento Boxes" (幸福便當), effective at the end of January. The ministry, which partnered with major retailers like PX Mart (全聯), Carrefour, FamilyMart (全家), and 7-Eleven, halted sales because of a lack of funding for 2025.
Since 2023, the "Happiness Bento Boxes" have been a favorite among budget-conscious consumers. They offer a variety of locally sourced main dishes such as chicken breast, Taiwan mackerel, and cutlassfish fillets. The "Happiness Ingredients Website" (幸福食材網), managed by the ministry, confirmed the decision, urging customers to check availability at stores or online before visiting.
Consumers can still purchase the bento boxes at Carrefour, FamilyMart, 7-Eleven, and sheltered workshops until the end of January. Through this initiative, MOA aimed to provide the public with "premium hidden agricultural and fishery ingredients."
Many netizens regret the discontinuation, referring to the bento boxes as "a small happiness for college students" and "a lifesaver at the end of the month." As the program ends, the public may seek alternative affordable meal options, reflecting on the impact of this initiative on their daily lives.
