TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taitung County Magistrate Rao Ching-ling (饒慶鈴) will lead a delegation to Beijing and Shanghai on Saturday (Jan. 4) to boost the visibility and sales of Taitung fruits. This trip, which will take place from Jan. 4 to Jan. 9, aims to enhance local economic development and broaden youth perspectives on international affairs.

Rao, accompanied by about 30 members of Taitung's Youth Development Commission (台東縣青年事務發展委員會) and other officials, plans to arrive in Beijing on Saturday. They will begin agricultural promotion activities on Sunday and visit renowned malls and businesses on Monday. The group will then head to Shanghai on Tuesday and Wednesday to engage with local enterprises, returning to Taiwan on Thursday.

China's Taiwan Affairs Office (中國國台辦) also announced plans to meet with "Taiwanese individuals" on Saturday but has not confirmed their identities. According to the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA, 農業部), China suspended Taiwanese pineapple imports due to pest concerns in September 2021 and later resumed the imports in June 2023.

In April 2024, Taiwan signed an agreement allowing pineapple exports to New Zealand. The ministry continues to focus on expanding the export market for Taiwanese agricultural products, the MOA said.
