TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Nuan Nuan Sunshine Association (暖暖Sunshine協會) and the family of the alleged sexual assault case victim at McDonald's urged action against workplace sexual harassment on Thursday (Jan. 2). They held a press conference at the Legislative Yuan (立法院) and called for greater awareness and reforms to address the issue.
The Nuan Nuan Sunshine Association highlighted Ministry of Labor (勞動部) data from 2023, revealing that approximately 343,000 employees in Taiwan experienced sexual harassment, yet more than half did not file complaints. The association demanded four key changes: amending regulations, making harassment handling processes transparent, involving society in proactive measures, and offering mandatory counseling for victims of power-based sexual violence.
Family members of the McDonald's case victim criticized the investigation process, alleging bias and attempts to frame the incident as a romantic issue. They also noted the company's lack of psychological counseling services. The family expressed frustration with the internal legal team, which they said failed to provide practical legal advice and follow-up support, leading the 18-year-old victim to take her own life.
The Nuan Nuan Sunshine Association and the victim's family emphasize the urgent need for systemic changes to protect employees and prevent future tragedies. They urge the public and legislators to support their initiatives and ensure a safer work environment for everyone.
