TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Czech Republic's Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has added Taiwan to the list of countries whose citizens can work in the Czech Republic without a Blue Card, work visa, or work permit, Novinky.cz reported on Sunday (Dec. 22). This change will take effect in Jan. 2025, following a legislative amendment approved by Czech senators this week.
Since July, the Czech government has allowed citizens from nine non-EU countries, including Australia, Japan, and the United States, to enter its labor market freely. Taiwan was initially included on this list. However, the Czech Republic needed to amend its "Employment Law" to apply this measure to Taiwan as an "independent jurisdiction" due to its non-recognition as an independent country.
The Czech Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs stated the amendment would reduce administrative burdens on employers and expedite the entry of Taiwanese job seekers into the labor market. The ministry expressed optimism about the proposal's approval by the Cabinet, anticipating no obstacles due to the consensus that Taiwan should be on the list of countries exempt from work permits.
The legislative change marks a significant step in enhancing Taiwan's access to international job markets. As the effective date approaches, Taiwanese professionals may find new opportunities in the Czech Republic's diverse and growing economy.
