TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Yushan National Park (玉山國家公園) implemented new snow season management measures on Thursday (Dec. 19), requiring climbers to have snow climbing experience and equipment. The park suspended single-day return applications for the Yushan Peaks Trail (玉山線) from Dec. 19, 2024, to March 31, 2025.
The park's measures apply to trails above 3,000 meters, including the Batongguan Traversing Trail (八通關越嶺線), South Section 2 (南二段), Xinkang Crossing Trail (新康山線), and Mabolasi Crossing Trail (馬博拉斯橫斷線). Climbers must possess snow experience and equipment. Application instructions and forms are available on Taiwan's one-stop mountaineering application website.
Leaders must have snow training skills and equipment, while team members need snow climbing experience and must sign a declaration ensuring all gear and skills are adequate for the snow season. Required equipment includes helmets, crampons, and ice axes, and climbers must be physically fit to handle snow conditions. Additionally, mountaineering insurance is mandatory, with team leaders responsible for member safety.
The park's initiative aims to enhance safety and preserve the ecological integrity of its high-altitude trails during the snow season. Climbers and enthusiasts must prepare thoroughly and adhere to the new regulations to ensure a safe and responsible climbing experience.
