TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The National Communications Commission (NCC, 國家通訊傳播委員會) announced on Wednesday (Dec. 18) that all satellite channels passed the review of local program broadcasts. However, the closure of MY KIDS TV in 2023 led to a significant reduction in children's programming hours, decreasing by 719 hours annually.
NCC conducted the review under the "Regulations on the Management of Domestic Programs Broadcast by Wireless Television Enterprises" (無線電視事業播送本國自製節目管理辦法) and the "Regulations on the Management of Domestic Programs Broadcast by Satellite Channel Program Suppliers" (衛星頻道節目供應事業播送本國節目管理辦法).
NCC Secretary-General Huang Wen-che (黃文哲) confirmed that while all channels met the standards, the termination of MY KIDS TV affected children's programming hours. Statistics show a decrease of 73 hours in domestic children's programs and 179 hours in new domestic children's programs in 2023.
Currently, Taiwan hosts only four domestic children's channels. An NCC official noted that MY KIDS TV's closure, which produced many children's programs, impacted the total broadcast hours despite other general channels airing children's content. In response to the decline, the NCC approved in July the transformation of Public Television Service Channel 3 into a children's channel, aiming to leverage national resources to produce and broadcast distinctive local children's programs.
