TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Environment (MOENV, 環境部) launched its air quality policy white paper initiative Wednesday (Dec. 18), aiming to present the plan by March 2025. The initiative seeks to create a unified scientific platform to discuss air quality improvements, according to scholars.
During a press conference titled "New Air Quality Policy White Paper Planning Launch" (新空品政策白皮書規劃啟動), MOENV's Department of Atmospheric Environment head Chang Shun-chin (張順欽) emphasized the white paper's focus on public needs for air quality, enhanced communication, and the collection of public concerns.
Chang noted plans to incorporate international experiences, emerging technologies, and research to boost the scientific reliability of air quality policies and strengthen cross-border cooperation and local research.
Chang Gung University (長榮大學) professor Lai Hsin-chih (賴信志) highlighted the challenges posed by Taiwan's unpredictable weather and its impact on air quality. Lai stated, "This time, with a shared scientific platform and common tools, there is an opportunity to discuss how to improve Taiwan's future air quality on the same level."
Lin Neng-huei ( 林能暉 ), an atmospheric sciences professor at National Central University, pointed out the significance of NASA's Kaohsiung-Pingtung air quality experiment earlier this year. The experiment revealed previously unknown factors, providing a foundation for the third phase of the air pollution control plan.
