TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Environmental Minister Peng Chi-ming (彭啓明) announced on Tuesday (Dec. 17) that the Ministry of Environment (MOENV, 環境部) will design courses to boost green-collar talent, highlighting a growing trend in the industry. The announcement came during a press conference co-hosted by MOENV and the 104 Job Bank (104人力銀行), where they unveiled a report on green-collar employment trends.
The report shows nearly 3,600 companies demand green-collar talent this year, with an average monthly recruitment of 22,000 people, marking a 3.29-fold increase over the past eight years. Minister Peng described green-collar courses as similar to piano or violin tutoring, stressing the government's inability to regulate market prices and urging citizens to choose stable and reputable education platforms.
Peng also compared the monthly demand for AI jobs, approximately 29,000, with green-collar jobs at 22,000, projecting the latter could reach 60,000 due to its rigid demand. He emphasized that public companies must address net-zero challenges. Labor Minister Hung Sun-han (洪申翰) acknowledged the potential impact of net-zero initiatives on high-carbon industries and workers, committing to creating more green jobs and enhancing vocational training with environmental awareness.
Minister of National Environmental Research Academy (NERA, 國家環境研究院) Liu Tsung-yung (劉宗勇) revealed plans to establish a public-private net-zero green-collar alliance next year. This initiative will design a platform for green-collar talent, offering training and job matching. Liu added that the academy will collaborate with universities to provide materials, standardized exams, and certifications, aiming to launch net-zero emission courses in various regions by April next year.
