NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A new medical and long-term care facility in New Taipei City's (新北市) Ruifang District (瑞芳區) will be completed and launched by 2028, according to New Taipei City's Government. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony in mid-November, Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) emphasized that the 10-story building will integrate AI technology to offer 36 acute care beds and 136 long-term care beds to serve the aging population in the northeastern region.
Noting the inconvenience for seniors traveling to Keelung or Sijhih (汐止) for medical care, Mayor Hou emphasized the importance of this project during the ceremony, stating, “Precision and smart medicine coupled with preventive medicine are what our new facility aims to offer, including long-term care equipment and facilities.” The facility aims to address the growing needs of the elderly in Ruifang, Shuangxi (雙溪), Pingxi (平溪), and Gongliao (貢寮), where 25% of the population is over 65, according to the city's Department of Health (新北衛生局).
The new facility will replace the outdated Ruifang Miner Hospital (瑞芳礦工醫院) and offer diverse services to meet local healthcare and care needs. The building's first three floors will house the hospital, the fourth floor will serve as a daycare center, and the upper floors will provide long-term residential care. The building will feature an independent entrance for the hospital and long-term care facility and a 24-hour emergency service. The project, set to operate for 50 years under a build-operate-transfer (BOT) contract, promises an innovative healthcare environment upon completion.
