TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Chen Chieh-hsien (陳傑憲), a standout baseball player, expressed his readiness to seize international opportunities during an interview on TVBS program "Insight People" (看板人物) on Sunday (Dec. 1). According to his agency, Chen, fresh from his MVP-winning performance at the WBSC Premier 12, has sparked interest from Japanese and American professional baseball leagues.
Chen, who won four major awards, including Best Outfielder and Best Defensive Player, sees Taiwan's recent championship as a chance for global recognition of Taiwanese baseball talent. He acknowledges that through this championship, the world can know Taiwan better, and Taiwanese baseball players will have more confidence to stand on the international stage.
At 30, Chen understands the fleeting nature of an athlete's prime and remains inspired by his childhood dream of wearing the Chinese Taipei (中華隊) uniform. Additionally, his aspiration to pursue a career abroad was inspired by former pitcher Wang Chien-ming (王建民), whose success in Major League Baseball (MLB) shone as a beacon of possibility.
Chen emphasized the rarity of such international opportunities and his willingness to embrace the challenge. He said that if foreign teams recognize his strength, such opportunities are only for some, and he will seize the chance to challenge. He expressed his contentment with experiencing the broader world, even if his overseas career did not flourish.
